Fairfield, NJ, September 16, 2015 – As more pet owners look toward non-GMO, clean label food products for their pets, pet food manufacturers are looking toward alternative, natural food ingredient sources, says Gil Bakal, A&B Ingredients Managing Director. He notes that a growing number of pet food companies are looking to wet milled pea protein for that very reason.
“What makes pea protein so attractive is that it’s not only a sustainable protein source that allows for the formulation of high quality protein enriched pet food, but also has high functionality allowing pet food manufacturers to partially or fully replace many other proteins,” said Bakal.
He points to A&B Ingredients’ PisaneR wet milled pea protein isolate as a, high value, sustainable protein source that allows for the formulation of high quality protein enriched pet food.
Pulse protein, which includes pea and wet milling ingredients, was recently discussed by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) Ingredients Definition Committee.
“The AAFCO approval is another sign of expanding, widespread acceptance of an exciting new protein source that offers greater protein content consistency, and allows a formula with less carbohydrates,” said Bakal.
AAFCO is a voluntary membership association of local, state and federal agencies charged by law to regulate the sale and distribution of animal feeds and animal drug remedies.
A&B Ingredients’ PisaneR pea protein is locally grown in the North of France and is free from any generic modifications. The peas are then processed at Cosucra’s new processing facility in Belgium. The cracking of the pea and the separation of components are based on a unique aqueous process using no organic solvents or hexane.
An all-natural, clean-label ingredient, Pisane is proven to be one of the most tolerated and accepted protein sources without high allergy issues.
Pisane pea protein benefits are:
- High protein content (88 – 90%)
- High digestibility of 98%
- Low in anti-nutritional factors
- High tolerance
- Free from common allergens
- No cholesterol, lactose or soya
