Imagilin Technologies' JJ Lin to Present Results of New Probiotics Clinical Study at R&D Applications Seminar in Chicago

FAIRFIELD, NJ, July 27, 2016 -- A&B Ingredients announced that JJ Lin, Ph.D., Imagilin Technologies Chief Scientist, will discuss the company's latest clinical study on the effects of probiotics on humans at Prepared Foods R&D Applications Seminar on August 17th in Chicago, IL.

Entitled "The Choice of Innovative Plant-Based, Non-Spore Forming Probiotics: Pediococcus Acidilactici for Integration into Food," Dr. Lin's presentation will focus on the benefits of Imaglin Technologies' probiotics PA5051®, a non-spore-forming, plant-based non-GMO probiotic as a food ingredient.  A probiotic supplement, PA5051, is based on P.Acidilactici. It is a hardy probiotic that has the tools to survive in nature as well as through the digestive system.  Because PA5051 is extremely robust and stable, it provides many important and beneficial functions in the host, such as aiding in digestion, maintaining the proper balance of good vs. bad bacteria, and helping to support the immune system.

"Conventional probiotics, Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, are sensitive to heat, air, and acid. It is a challenge for food manufacturers to not only integrate live probiotics into foods or beverages as the premium functional foods but also have desirable health benefits," said Dr. Lin.

Dr. Lin noted that several clinical studies were performed in different clinics in Frederick, MD. From the biweekly questionnaire responses about appetite, energy level, bowel movement, stool quality, bloating, and gas, no statistical differences were observed in volunteers between before and after administering PA5051, even in the volunteers suffering from obesity.  Similar safety studies were performed on 30 volunteers in a double-blind design. After three months of administering PA5051 and a placebo, no statistical differences in the safety of health were observed.  P. acidilactici NRRL B-50517 withstands high temperatures, is safe for human consumption, can be integrated into food, and may be useful in weight management by reducing body fat and pro-inflammatory markers

PA5051 is resistant to high temperature, air, and acidic environment. Performed by physiological adaptations, there was no genetic engineering involvement nor any introduction of foreign DNA.

He notes, "Large-scale production of PA5051 has been achieved while maintaining the characteristics of the probiotics for high-temperature resistant, even up to 90˚C."

Dr. Lin states that the success of integrating the probiotic PA5051 into food such as chocolate, peanut butter, yogurt (from dairy milk, soy milk, and rice milk), syrup, ketchup, fax oil, and olive oil-based on the detection of live probiotics after storage at room temperature will be presented and discussed.  Different applications of this probiotic as a supplement, in processed food, beverages, skincare, and medical foods will also be discussed at the R&D Applications Seminar.

PA5051 probiotic supplement is available from A&B Ingredients.
