Fairfield, NJ, October 21, 2014 -- A&B Ingredients unveiled the latest addition to its pea protein offerings -- Pisane® B9. Introduced at this year's SupplySide West in Las Vegas, this new pea protein isolate was created to meet the growing needs of manufacturers of high protein baked goods, including protein bars, granola bars, bread products, and extruded crisps.
A&B Ingredients Managing Partner, Gil Bakal, in making the announcement said, "Market reports continue to show that the growth in nutrition products are far outpacing overall food and drinks spending. The addition of Pisane B9 to the A&B Ingredients family of natural products is a welcome one for those manufacturers seeking specific nutritional needs in their baked products for use in senior nutrition, sports nutrition, weight management, as well as their gluten-free products."
Bakal notes that Pisane B9 pea protein isolate is an extremely viable alternative protein source containing high levels of branched-chain amino acids -- leucine, isoleucine, valine -- arginine and lysine. A non-genetically modified (GMO) pea protein isolate, Pisane has excellent digestibility -- 98% -- and a well-balanced amino acid profile. Manufactured by Cosucra, Pisane B9 contains 88% to 90% protein. It is both gluten-free and exhibits low incidents of allergens.
"Pisane is derived from the yellow pea via a gentle extraction process without the use of organic solvents. And, pea protein is an exceptionally viable alternative protein source that can have a profound influence on the formulation of in weight-conscious food and diets based on a low glycemic index (GI) and high protein intake," he said.
Pisane's arginine content is the highest of all commercially available proteins and contributes to enhanced immune responses. The lysine content of pea protein helps with the building of muscle protein and which is required for growth and bone development.
Another plus for Pisane, notes Bakal, is the ever-growing move toward all-natural, clean-label ingredients. Pea protein has proven to be one of the most tolerated and accepted protein sources without labeling or high allergy issues.
