Rising Egg Costs Drawing Greater Attention to Pisane Pea Protein as Egg Powder Replacement

Pisane Pea Protein as Egg Powder Replacement

Fairfield, NJ, August 6, 2015 -- In response to BB&T Capital Markets analyst Brett Hundley, who suggested retail egg prices could continue to surge to over $6 per dozen, A&B Ingredients' Gil Bakal simply states, "It could very well happen." The prediction was reported in an NBC news report earlier this week.

Bakal points out that the recent avian flu outbreak has caused retail egg prices to skyrocket. In fact, USDA data shows large shell eggs are now costing $4.49 per dozen in the New York area.

According to NBC, "Midwest wholesale prices have risen 135 percent to $2.80 per dozen on Monday, up from $1.19 per dozen on April 22, according to prices from market research firm Urner Barry. Retail prices typically run higher."

Bakal states the problem for food manufacturers is that while they may be meeting short-term needs, as egg prices continue to rise, they have no choice but to find viable alternatives.

"In fact, many manufacturers are looking to pea protein to fill their needs as a replacement for egg powders and egg whites. Pea proteins are a sustainable protein source that allows for the formulation of high-quality protein-enriched food. They have high functionality, allowing them to partially or fully replace many other proteins," he says.

Bakal notes that Pisane® pea protein has already achieved much success among food manufacturers as an effective replacement for soy and dairy in a wide range of products from pastas, crackers, salad dressing, cereal, smoothies, and baked goods.

"Pea protein isolates have proven to be one of the most tolerated and accepted protein sources without high allergy issues. And, as an added benefit, it is an all-natural, clean-label ingredient," says Bakal.

Pisane is a non-dairy protein. It is a sustainable and effective alternative whose benefits include:

  • High protein content (88 -- 90%)
  • High digestibility of 98%
  • Low in anti-nutritional factors
  • Gluten-free
  • High tolerance
  • Free from common allergens
  • No cholesterol, lactose, or soya
  • Naturally-sourced
  • GMO-free
